AMD has launched the AMD Radeon HD 6000M Series graphics chips for laptops, initially including the 6300M and 6500M mobile video cards.

The lower end Radeon HD 6300M GPUs have 80 stream processing units, 8 texture units, 16 Z/Stencil ROP units, 4 color ROP units, and support for DDR3 memory, while the higher-performance Radeon HD 6500M chips have 400 SPUs, 20 TUs, 20 Z/S ROPs, 8 color ROPs, and support for both DDR3 and GDDR5 memory.

The 6000M series products support Microsoft DirectX 11, AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology, AMD EyeSpeed video encoding, transcoding, and upscaling acceleration, HD3D technology for stereoscopic 3D display/glasses support, Blu-ray 3D, and stereoscopic 3D gaming, as well as AMD Dynamic Switchable Graphics. For HD video decoding, there’s the UVD 2 accelerator.

The first notebooks with the AMD Radeon HD 6000M mobile graphics are already listed on the Web. TigerDirect has in stock the ASUS K52JT-XT1 with the 1GB AMD / ATI HD 6370, while the Radeon 6550 1GB is listed in specifications of an Acer Aspire 17.3-incher. Finally, the HD 6570 is mentioned in specs sheets of Lenovo’s upcoming IdeaPad Y560 models.
